J. PAUL CHENE
J. Paul Chene, 65, who owned the San Rafael Loan Shop at 846 Fourth Street, San Rafael, for the last 13 years, died early today in a local hospital after a long illness.
A native of New Mexico, he had lived with his wife, Amelia N. Chene, in a residence above the pawn shop since moving to Marin 13 years ago.
He managed a credit union in Vallejo before moving here. He was in the auto business in Santa Fe, N.M. before that.
Chene was a member of the San Rafael Lodge1108, B.P.O.Elks.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Maj. Jerry P. Chene, with the Marine Corps in the Far East; his brothers, Robert Chene of New Mexico and Hector Chene of Hawaii; his sister, Mrs. Nash Kavanough of New Mexico, and three grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Keaton's Mortuary, San Rafael.

A death notice in the same paper adds information: he was the grandfather of Michael Paul, Kevin Scott and Brian Joseph Chene, all of San Rafael.
