Marin Murderer Dies in Prison

John E. Cornyn, 52, convicted of the murder of his two sons in the superior court here in 1921, died yesterday in San Quentin prison. Cornyn’s death resulted from a cerebral hemorrhage.

The dual murder, for which Cornyn was sentenced to life imprisonment by Judge E. I. Butler, occurred on April 24, 1921, in Corte Madera. Cornyn, a resident of San Francisco, had come to Marin County to visit his two sons – Arthur, 9, and Andrew, 11 – then wards of St. Vincent’s Orphanage. The father told school authorities that he wished to take the boys on a day’s outing. When the trio arrived on the outskirts of Corte Madera, Cornyn shot both children through the head. No motive for his act was established.
