Benjamin Alcantara died last Sunday after being ill for a number of years.
Alcantara, 69, was found dead at his Inverness Park home and according to a neighbor the cause of his death may have been a heart attack.
Alcantara was born in Point Reyes and was a direct ancestral member of one of the original Spanish land grant families.
Neighbors were very fond of Ben, as he was known, and remembered him as a magnificent horseman who used to ride in the West Marin Stock Show Parade and had been employed at the Bear Valley Ranch as a horse breaker.
Alcantara left the area briefly when younger but returned to Inverness Park in 1925 to operate a family dairy.
He is survived by two of his sisters, Dolores Hartsook of San Rafael and Marjorie Roberts of San Francisco.
A Requiem Mass was offered for Alcantara at 10 o’clock on Wednesday and he was buried in the Olema Cemetery.
