JOHN G. ZIEL

Santa Rosa - John G. Ziel of Oakmont, former longtime San Rafael resident, died early today in a Santa Rosa hospital after a brief illness. He was believed to be 82.

He was born in San Francisco and was reared there and in San Rafael where the family moved in 1900.

Ziel was prominent in Bay Area commercial circles as owner of the Ziel and Co. import-export business. He was a member of the Pacific Union Club, the Merchants Exchange and the Society of California Pioneers. He was a veteran of Navy service during World War II, with the rank of commander.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ziel of Oakmont; two daughters, Charlotte Irving of Nicasio and Patricia Olsen of Sacramento; a son, John Ziel in Oregon; a sister, Charlotte Brown of New Jersey; and six grandchildren.

The funeral is pending at Keaton’s Mortuary, San Rafael.
