HELEN CLEAVELAND
Helen Ralston Cleaveland, 57, 41 Buena Vista Avenue, Mill Valley, collapsed and died at her home last night after choking on a piece of steak.
Deputy Coroner Keith C. Craig said her husband, Rev. Fred M. Cleaveland Jr., attempted, with the help of a neighbor, [to] revive his wife by mouth-to-mouth resuscitation but was unsuccessful.
A doctor was called and pronounced her dead at 5:05 p.m. An autopsy is planned.
A native of San Jose, Mrs. Cleaveland had lived in Marin County for 22 years. She was a member of the Episcopal Church Women at the Church of Our Savior in Mill Valley where her husband, a retired insurance underwriter, is deacon.
Other survivors include two sons, John A. Cleaveland of Fairfax and James R. Cleaveland of New York City; a daughter, Jane A. Balleisen of Mill Valley; her mother, Etta Conway Alison of Burbank; a sister, Lucile A. Jewel of North Hollywood,and three grandchildren.
A requiem Eucharist will be held tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Church of Our Savior, Mill Valley. Interment private. The family prefers contributions to the Church of Our Savior.
