EY, Christian Kane -- In Palo Alto, July 22, age 63, after a valiant eight-year battle with colon cancer and Alzheimer's. A long-time resident of Menlo Park and Woodside, Chris was born and raised in Palo Alto. He was a licensed architect, having received his degree in architecture from UC Berkeley. In 1962, he joined the San Francisco firm of Gwathmey, Sellier, Crosby Architects and rose to the position of vice president. Chris designed a wide range of education and medical facilities in the Bay Area, including buildings at Cabrillo College (Aptos) and the Letterman Army Institute of Research at the Presidio. In 1977, Chris switched to the construction side of the building industry and joined L. E. Wentz Co. in San Carlos. As vice president from 1981 to 1991, Chris had management responsibility for a variety of projects. Among his favorites were the Opus One Winery (Oakville), Metro Plaza (San Jose), and the Pacific Athletic Club (Redwood Shores). Chris is survived by his adored wife, Carolyn Eriksson-Ey; and his mother, Eleanor Hill of Menlo Park. He enjoyed a special loving relationship with his stepchildren: Megan (Grant) Moriarty of Woodside, Karen Coppock of Boston, and John (Leslie) Coppock of Portland. He was devoted ''Grandpa Chris'' to Zachary, Cooper and Devin. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law and their spouses: Kathleen and Richard Freeman (Novato), Sue Erickson and Tom Daniel (Bainbridge Island, WA). A memorial service will be held at Valley Presbyterian Church, 945 Portola Road, Portola Valley, on Friday August 3, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the VA Hospice Care Center, 3801 Miranda Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94304 or the Alzheimer's Association, 2065 West El Camino Real, Mt.
