SCHAFER, Violet C. -- Was born November 14, 1910 in Jamestown, ND to Alice K. and Henry B. Smith. She and her late husband, Charles L. Schafer, were long time residents of Corte Madera, CA. She died June 11, 2001 in Sonoma, CA. Violet graduated from the University of Minnesota, obtaining degrees in education and journalism. She worked at Sunset Magazine and also taught at Mills College. With her late husband, she co-authored Wokcraft, Herbcraft and other books in that series. She is survived by her sister, Irene Christofferson, of Whidbey Island, WA, and several nieces and nephews. No service is planned. Remembrances may be made to Common Cause or The Sierra Club.
