MARY A. GILBERT
Auctioneer
Mary Ann Gilbert was one of the Bay Area’s first women auctioneers.
“In 1975 she went to auctioneer school in Missouri,” recalled her daughter, Gina Gilbert Bright of Rohnert Park.
Mrs. Gilbert died in San Rafael Sept. 12 at 71.
Memorial services will be held at 5 tonight at Warehouse Ministries, 5470 Nave Dr., in Novato.
She was born in Abbeyville, Ga., and came to Marin with her husband, the late Walter Gilbert, 29 years ago. She lived in Tiburon before moving to Novato.
They operated WJ Gilbert Gallery of Northgate and San Francisco, specializing in the sale and auctioning of Asian rugs.
Mrs. Gilbert played southern folksongs on the piano.
Her son, John Anthony Gilbert, died earlier.
Besides Gina Gilbert Bright, she is survived by two other daughters, Jan Pak of Grass Valley and Jennifer Lang of New Jersey; and two grandchildren.
Burial will be at Abbeyville, Ga.
