HANSEL E. SMITH

A funeral service for Hansel E. Smith, a retired military serviceman, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Halsted & Co., San Francisco.

Smith, 53, of San Rafael, died Wednesday.

Smith served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War, retiring after 18 years service. He was awarded a Purple Heart.

He was a native of Shawneetown, Ill., and had lived in Marin for 32 years.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia Smith; five sons, Hansel Jr., Wendel, Dennis, Terry Joe and Jon Smith; four daughters, Candice, Cindy, Cathy and Tina, all of San Rafael; his parents, Eschol B. Smith and Anna Barnard; and two grandchildren.

Burial will be at Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno.
