Fatally Stricken At Army Post, Warren Dawes Dies Suddenly
Stricken ill suddenly on Saturday at the Army post in Texas where he was training in the air forces, Pvt. Warren Dawes, son of the Walter L Dawes, 19 Roosevelt avenue, Mill Valley, died a few hours later according to word reaching his parents early Sunday morning through Red Cross channels.
Only two messages reached the parents, the first that their son was in the regional hospital at the Air Forces military training center in San Antonio and for the father to communicate with the institution at once. He received the message upon his return from a business trip south but before contact could be made, the young soldier had breathed his last. The only word received thus far was from the Army, that acute meningitis was the cause of death.
The twin Dawes brothers, Warren B. and Walter R., graduated from Tamalpais High School last January. Receiving their diplomas on Sunday, the twins applied for service in the AAF on Monday, were accepted the next day and were off to camp together. Inseparable in boyhood, the twins were together during all their brief Army career. Both were privates in the same division of the service and at the same post. Pvt. Walter Dawes left yesterday for home and the body of his twin brother is being brought to Mill Valley with military honor escort.
The son of Walter L. and Fama B. Dawes, Warren Benson Dawes was born in San Francisco and was 18 years of age. Besides the twin brother, he leaves one sister, Mrs. Miller V. Jensen Jr. of San Francisco.
The body, upon arriving in Mill Valley, will be taken to the Robert F. Russell Co. chapel where arrangements will be made for the services and burial.
