San Rafael’s Ex-Constable Evans Dies
John Evans, 88, former San Rafael police officer and constable of the township for about 25 years, died early today. He had a long illness but was hospitalized only a week ago.
He resided at 1912 Center road, Novato, where he moved eight years ago when the township justice courts were abolished, and consequently the post of constable.
Old time San Rafael residents will recall Evans directing traffic from his station at Fourth and B streets. He lived on Miramar avenue, San Rafael, before moving to the northern part of the county.
A native of Worcester, England, Evans came to California when he was about 16 years old.
He belonged to Marin Lodge 191, Free and Accepted Masons, and the San Rafael Elks Lodge.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Harry M. Williams Mortuary.
