WOLFE, Cameron W. - Passed away December 19, 2002, 92 years young, in Oakland, California. Cameron was born in San Francisco on August 14, 1910. Survived by Jean Brown Wolfe, his wife of 66 years and his three sons and daughters-in-law Cameron, Jr. (Fran), Bruce (Mary Beth) and Robert (Mary Lynn). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren and his sister Carlisle Wolfe Rowley and brother-in-law Nathan D. Rowley of Marin County. Graduated from Oakland's University High School in 1927, Stanford University in 1931 and University of California School of Law, Boalt Hall in 1934. Cameron's first job in Oakland was as Assistant District Attorney under Earl Warren. He then opened his own law office in Oakland where he practiced until 1975. From 1946 until 1971 he served as U.S. Commissioner and then U.S. Magistrate in Oakland while maintaining his law practice. At the age of 65 he was appointed United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of California. After twelve years he became a Senior Bankruptcy Judge sitting at various locations throughout the Western United States. He retired from the Court at the age of 81. During World War II he served as Lt. Commander in the United States Navy. While practicing in Oakland, Cameron was active in civic affairs and a leader in scouting activities with his sons. Cameron's favorite place to vacation was Lake Tahoe. He and his wife have owned a home at Tahoe Park since 1957. A Memorial Service and Celebration of his life will be held Monday, December 23 at 11 A.M. at Piedmont Community Church, 400 Highland Ave., Piedmont. In lieu of flowers, contributions to The League to Save Lake Tahoe, 955 Emerald Bay Road, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150 or to Piedmont Community Church, 400 Highland Ave., Piedmont, CA 94611 would be appreciated.

Oakland -- A memorial service will be held today for Cameron W. Wolfe, a longtime bankruptcy judge who also served under Earl Warren in the Alameda County district attorney's office and deciphered Japanese code during World War II.

The Piedmont resident died Dec. 19 of pneumonia at Summit Medical Center in Oakland. He was 92.

Judge Wolfe, named Cameron because he was a descendant of the Scottish clan of that name, was known for his compassion for the little guy.

As a judge, he would often bring up issues helpful to the often beleaguered lawyers trying to save bankrupt small business owners from ruin, said his son, Cameron Wolfe Jr.
