FLOYD ALLENSBY

Floyd D. Allensby of San Rafael, owner of the Village Fair and the Casa Madrona Hotel in Sausalito, died yesterday in a San Francisco hospital after a long illness. He was 78.

Allensby, of 38 Mooring Road, bought the old empire garage on Bridgeway in Sausalito, transforming it into the Village Fair, which now houses about 28 specialty and gift shops. He also was the owner of several hotels and apartment buildings in San Francisco.

An avid yachtsman, he was a member of the Loch Lomond, San Rafael and Sausalito yacht clubs. He also belonged to the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in San Rafael No. 1108.

A native of Omaha, Neb., Allensby came to the Bay Area as a young man in 1914. He was graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and began a career as a successful entrepreneur. He was a resident of Marin County for the past 35 years.

Surviving is his wife, Helen.

Private funeral will be held tomorrow. The family requests memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity.

A Death Notice in the same paper states that the family funeral was held at Keaton’s Mortuary, San Rafael. Inurnment was in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Colma.
