Harvey Edward Teague, August 3, 1929-September 17, 2002
Born in Livermore, CA and raised in Alameda, Harvey graduated from Alameda High School. During his youth and teen years, Harvey was active in scouting, achieving the rank of Double Eagle Scout. His love of scouting carried into his adult life, where he served as a troop leader as well as being involved in the training of other scout leaders. In 1969 he accompanied his scouts to the International Boy Scouts Jamboree in London, England where they participated in the Queen's Silver Jubilee. A veteran of both the Army and the Air Force, Harvey began his military service in the infantry. After completing basic training at Fort Ord, he was ordered to Osaka, Japan to the Corp of Military Police School. Upon completion of training he served with the 545th Combat Military Police Company, First Cavalry Division, Osaka, Japan until his discharge in December 1949. Harvey re-entered military service in January 1951, serving with the Statistical Control Branch, Air Force Command Headquarters at Ent AFB Colorado. While serving in the Air Force, Harvey was involved in both Counter Intelligence and Criminal Investigation. Following his discharge from the Air Force, Harvey began his law enforcement career. Hired by the Marin County Sherrifs Department in 1955, he served in the patrol division until 1961, when he was promoted to the rank of Inspector. As an Inspector, he was named Commander of the Juvenile Bureau. He served as commander until 1970, while achieving the rank of Lieutenant. At that time he was promoted to Sheriffs Captain, Patrol Division, in which capacity he served until his retirement in 1978. As well as his distinguished police and military service, Harvey was also involved in many other arenas. A past president of the Native Sons of the Golden West, a member of the Society of Freemasons, Senior Assemblyman and Senior Senator for the California Senior Legislature, a member of the board of numerous youth councils, narcotics awareness programs and other law enforcement committees. Harvey also received his Associate in Arts degree in Police Science from the College of Marin, a Bachelors degree in Criminal Science from J.F.K. University, a life-time teaching credential in undergraduate studies, Police Sciences, as well as completing every top management course offered in the field of law enforcement in the State of California. He dedicated his time during his retirement to senior citizen issues, serving as Advisory Council Chairman for the Sonoma County Area Agency on Aging from 1992-1994, and representing senior Californians in the California Senior Legislature. Mr. Teague is survived by his loving wife of thirty years, Elizabeth Teague. He is also survived by his children, James Brewer and wife Vicki of Elk Grove, Terri Wagner of Cotati, Susan Teague of Santa Rosa, Laurie Teague of Placerville, and James Teague and wife Jenni of Petaluma. Also survived by grandchildren Devon and Sean Wagner, Marshall and Claire Dunn, John, Clay and Delaney Teague as well as many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to pay their respects from 2 to 5 PM, Monday, September 23rd at PLEASANT HILLS MEMORIAL PARK, 1700 Pleasant Hill Rd., Sebastopol Burial will be Private In lieu of flowers, donations to a favorite charity are appreciated.
