Marin auto dealer John Rossi Jr.

John Rossi Jr., who ran the family auto business on Francisco Boulevard, died Monday, March 30, 1992, at Marin General Hospital. Mr. Rossi was 64.
One of the original families to purchase property in what’s now Marin’s “auto row,” the Rossis operated Rossi Motors, now Marin Mazda, for more than 40 years.
Mr. Rossi served as president of the dealership.
In addition to Mercedes-Benz, Mr. Rossi and his father handled such lines as DeSoto, Plymouth, Studebaker and since 1971, Mazda. In 1979, the sold the Mercedes-Benz dealership and kept the Mazda dealership at its current location, 807 Francisco Blvd.
“My dad used to get to work at 5 a.m….and people would always come by to socialize early because they knew he was always there with the coffee ready,” said his son, Edward Rossi of Fairfax.
The Rossi family will continue to run the business.
He was a native of San Anselmo and a longtime San Rafael resident. He was the student body president of San Rafael High’s Class of 1944. Mr. Rossi went on to study at College of Marin and later graduated from the University of California at San Francisco.
Mr. Rossi was a former member of the Elks Lodge in San Rafael.
In addition to his son Edward, Mr. Rossi is survived by two other sons, Peter Rossi of Anaheim and Christopher Rossi of San Anselmo; two daughters, Mary Theresa Rossi of Long Island, N.Y., and Patricia Lee Rossi of Mill Valley; and his mother, Carmelita Rossi of San Anselmo. He also leaves a sister, Beverly Bacci of San Rafael, and two grandchildren.
His father, John Rossi Sr., died two years ago.
The memorial Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Friday at St. Vincent’s School for Boys in Marinwood.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of the Hills Mortuary in San Anselmo.
Burial will be private.
His family prefers memorial contributions to St. Vincent’s School for Boys, 4900 Redwood Highway, San Rafael, 94903 or to a favorite charity.
