LEROY HEKKALA
T/Sgt. Leroy G. Hekkala, 34, of the 666th Radar Squadron Mount Tamalpais, died at his home in Novato Saturday of a self-inflicted rifle wound, according to Deputy Coroner Donald L. Cornish.
Hekkala was discovered in the bedroom of his home, 640 Ignacio Boulevard, at 10:27 a.m. by his wife, Rosalind, Novato police reported.
Hekkala shot himself in the head, Cornish said. He left no notes, but Mrs. Hekkala said he had been depressed, Cornish reported.
Hekkala was a native of Oregon. He had been in the Air Force since 1958.
Surviving, besides his wife, are two daughters, Lenore and Evon, and a son, Martin, all of Novato.
Graveside service will be held at the National Cemetery at Willamette, Ore.
