Col. John P. Jones Jr.
Tiburon – A funeral is scheduled to be held at a time to be announced later for retired Army Col. John P. Jones Jr. of Tiburon, who died unexpectedly last Thursday while vacationing in Gatlinburg, Tenn.
Jones, 69, had lived in Tiburon since 1966.
He was born in Richland, Ore., and was a graduate of the University of Oregon. He went into the Army in 1932 serving 34 years with the military and retiring as a colonel.
During his Army career, Jones was stationed in various places and saw duty in the Pacific Theater during World War II and also later in the Korean War and as an attaché in Vietnam.
After he retired from the Army, he moved to Tiburon and went to work for Crocker Bank where he was an assistant vice president for 10 years.
Jones was a member of several military and other organizations and enjoyed golf, gardening and travel.
He is survived by his wife, Marvis Jones of the family home; one daughter, Pamela Jones Batten of Gaffney, S.C.; one son, John Price Jones III of Bakersfield; a sister, Elizabeth N. Halley of Portland, Ore., and five grandchildren.

A Death Notice in the same paper mentions that arrangements were handled by Keaton’s Mortuary of San Rafael.
