Joan Martin Laird
Died September 5, 2002 at her home in Salt Lake City where, after a 16 year residency in Marin, she and her husband had moved this past July in order for her to be near her daughter after Joan was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Roger; mother, Mary Martin of Novato; daughter, Jody Doner of Salt Lake City; son, James Laird of New Canaan, Connecticut; sister, Carol Thompson of Berkeley; and five grandchildren. Joan grew up in San Rafael, attended Dominican High School and graduated from the University of California. She earned a Masters Degree in Special Education and headed Special Education Departments in high schools in New Canaan, Connecticut and Tulsa, Oklahoma. Joan loved tennis, bridge, literature, laughter and life. A Memorial Service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin at 240 Channing Way, San Rafael (East of 101) on September 13th at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society are suggested.
