ST. SURE, S.J., Rev. Donald F. -- In Los Gatos, CA on Saturday, October 27, 2001. A Jesuit for 72 years, Fr. St. Sure died after a brief illness in Regis Infirmary, Sacred Heart Jesuit Center. Father was born and raised in San Francisco and entered the Society of Jesus after graduating from St. Ignatius College Preparatory. The majority of Father's pastoral work centered about teaching the classics and music. He was a long time professor to the Jesuit seminarians at the former Los Gatos Novitiate and to diocesan seminarians at Ryan Prep Seminary in Fresno. In between these times, he was a professor at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. When teaching was no longer an option, Father was a Chaplain at St. Vincent's School for Boys in Santa Rosa. Before retiring to Los Gatos, his final ministerial assignment was as Chaplain at the Carmelite Monastery in Georgetown, CA. His deep love of the classics was evident by his continuous study of Latin and Greek classics, which helped develop an extraordinary knowledge of history and cultures. Though confined to a wheelchair, he did not stand still-constantly reading, watching educational television and expanding his boundaries. His knowledge and love of music were a blessing to all. Each day he practiced the piano for an hour-his music a mixture of pop and classics-but above all, a delight to all who were in listening range. To the surprise of some, Don had a passion and knowledge of sports-especially baseball. Until the very end, he watched the Divisional Playoffs and was proud of his Diamondbacks' march to the World Series! Don was a gracious, gentle soul, so thankful for that wheelchair push from kindly hands. He spoke no evil and we remember him as a good and faith filled priest. He is survived by a nephew, Donald G. St. Sure of San Rafael, CA.-4 grandnieces, 3 grandnephews, great grandnieces and numerous other relatives. Vigil Service will be on Tuesday, October 30th @7:30p.m. and the Funeral @ on Wednesday, October 31st @l0:00a.m.-both at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center, Los Gatos. Committal follows immediately at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.
