Marion Pearl Nestler
A long time survivor of breast cancer, passed away in peace on April 13th, 2002 of complications from lymphoma at age 74. Born in 1927 on her father's cattle ranch in Colbran, Colorado, Marion's family relocated to California in 1945, where she attended Long Beach City College and UC Santa Barbara. A dental assistant in San Francisco, she met her husband, Fred H. Nestler, DDS in 1954 while on a job interview. Smitten with Marion's lovely personality, Fred offered her a date, and later his hand instead of a job. A 35 year resident of Mill Valley, Marion devoted most of her career to raising her four boys. Active in the Mill Valley Community Church, she sang in the choir and volunteered for 15 years at The Redwoods Retirement Center. She retired to Sonoma in 1989 where she remained involved with the church choir. She loved to garden, travel, ski and spend time with her family. Known as "Oma" to her grandchildren, Marion is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Fred; sons Doug, David, Brad and Peter; four daughters-in-law; nine grandchildren; and her sister, Virginia Kerr of Sun City Center, Florida. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at the First Congregational Church of Sonoma on Thursday April 18th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
