Wesley F. Costello Dies At 72

Memorial services for Wesley F. Costello, San Rafael construction cost estimator, will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Chapel of the Hills in San Anselmo.

Costello, 72, died Saturday in a San Francisco hospital after a long illness.

He was a native of San Francisco and had lived there as well as in Belvedere and San Rafael, where his home had been at 181 Oak Drive for approximately eight years.

Costello had worked out of his home for the past five years, doing cost estimates on many large projects for firms in the Bay Area as well as Hawaii.

He was former president of the American Tile Co. in San Francisco, which he left when he joined the Seabees during World War II, serving as a chief bosun. He was also a veteran of World War I.

In 1958 he was chief estimator at the atomic bomb tests on Eniwetok and also served in this capacity for the missile tests on Johnstone Island in 1962.

An avid boater, Costello was a member of the Corinthian Yacht Club for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Helene S. Costello, and a stepdaughter, Jo Ann Mack of San Francisco.

The family prefers memorial gifts to the emphysema fund of the Marin Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Association.
