Joe Redding, One of Marin’s Oldest Native Born Sons, Is Called

Marin lost one of its oldest native born sons in the death Sunday of Joseph L. Redding, 81, at Cottage Hospital in San Rafael, where he had been confined for some time since suffering a fall.

The funeral Wednesday was held from the Keaton Mortuary, thence to St. Raphael’s church and burial was at Mt. Olivet. Many brother Elks attended the memorial services Monday evening, and Tuesday evening the rosary was said at the mortuary.

Redding had operated a large dairy farm in his native Nicasio Valley, retiring some years ago to let his son, Joseph H. Redding, carry on the farming operation. Mrs. Redding died several years ago shortly after the couple had observed their golden wedding anniversary.

He was a member of the San Rafael Lodge of Elks and a charter member of Nicasio Parlor 183, NSGW.

He was the father of Joseph H. Redding, Mrs. Imelda Sykes, Chas. T. Redding, Mrs. Ellen McNeil, Geo. I. Redding and the late Agnes Redding; brother of Mary Redding, Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers and the late Thomas E., Charles A. and William Redding.

His brother, Charles, had been undersheriff of Marin and at the time of his death was county treasurer.
