JAMES KEAN
A Requiem High Mass was offered today at St. Raphael’s Church for James A. Kean of San Rafael, who died at his home Saturday evening after six months of illness. He was 80.
Kean resided at 810 Fifth avenue with his wife, Margaret, since coming to Marin County 44 years ago from San Francisco. A native of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Kean came to the Bay Area just before the 1906 earthquake.
While living in San Francisco, Kean was employed by Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. as an electrical lineman. He later worked for Pacific Gas and Electric Co. here and during World War II he was employed by the government at Fts. Baker, Barry and Cronkhite.
He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Lodge 1292 and a member of Holy Names Society of St. Raphael’s Church. He was formerly affiliated with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
In addition to his wife, Kean is survived by a daughter and son, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Giles of Mill Valley and James J. Kean of San Rafael, who is an Independent-Journal printer; a brother, Charles Kean of Dyersville, Iowa; and four grandchildren.
Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma, directed by Keaton’s Mortuary.
