Dr. Herzog Dies In S. F.

Dr. George K. Herzog Sr., member of a pioneer San Rafael family and San Francisco gynecologist and obstetrician, died at Mt. Zion Hospital in San Francisco last night at the age of 79. He had been hospitalized since he fell and broke his hip a month ago.

The physician was born in San Rafael and attended public schools here, graduating from San Rafael High School. He attended Cooper Medical School and Stanford University Medical School.

Dr. Herzog was president of Polyclinic Hospital in San Francisco until his retirement 10 years ago. He kept a home on San Pedro road in Bayside acres in addition to his home in San Francisco.

During World War I, Dr. Herzog served as a lieutenant colonel in the Army Medical Corps.

His wife, Rae, preceded him in death a year ago. Survivors are a son and daughter, Dr. George K. Herzog Jr. and Mrs. Sylvia Leipsic, of San Francisco; a brother and two sisters, Sidney Herzog of Atherton, Mrs. A. S. Lee of San Rafael and Mrs. Julia Rheinstein of San Francisco; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dr. Herzog was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Max Herzog, who settled in San Rafael in 1868. His brother, the late Sigfried K. Herzog Sr., was the second mayor of San Rafael under the city charter, serving two terms from 1915 to 1919.

Private funeral services will be held tomorrow at Sinai Memorial Chapel in San Francisco. Friends wishing to make donations in the memory of Dr. Herzog may do so in the form of contributions to their favorite charity.
