Aged Meadow Park Resident Succumbs To Severe Burns
Mrs. Elizabeth Utz, 72, resident of Meadow Park, died early Wednesday morning from severe burns about her head and shoulders which she received when her clothing and hair had caught fire as she was bending over her gas range Tuesday.
Neighbors, rushing to the woman’s rescue, extinguished the flames which had engulfed the upper portion of her body and her hair, and a passing nurse, Mrs. Betty Jo Smith, also of Meadow Park, rushed the aged woman to the Cottage hospital, where authorities said she was in a serious condition.
Mrs. Utz, who had been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Clara Vierra, had arrived in this county just four days prior to the accident which brought about her death.
Funeral services for the woman will be held in her home town, Pittsburg, Kansas, and interment will also take place there.
