FANNY COTTLE

Funeral services will be held Tuesday for Fanny B. Cottle, long time Mill Valley resident, who died yesterday at a Napa hospital after a long illness.

Mrs. Cottle, 83, was the wife of Harold S. Cottle, a retired pharmacist. She had lived in Mill Valley since 1940 at 263 Miller Avenue and had originally come to the city in 1892.

She was a native of San Francisco. Her late father, Julian B. Harries, bought two lots in Mill Valley at the 1890 auction, and Mrs. Cottle moved, with her family, to Mill Valley two years later.

Harries was a founder of the Church of Our Saviour, Episcopal, when the church held services in Old Mill Park and used a stump for a pulpit. Mrs. Cottle and her two sisters sang in the choir in the park.

The Cottles were married in Mill Valley in 1905. They lived in San Francisco for several years, in Salinas and then in Stockton from 1920 to 1940 where Cottle owned a pharmacy.

Mrs. Cottle was a member of the Stockton Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her hobby was gardening.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Russel and Gooch Mortuary in Mill Valley. Interment will be in Mount Tamalpais Cemetery, San Rafael.

A Death Notice on the same page adds that she was the mother of Edward H. of Stockton and Walter B. Cottle of Redwood City, and sister of the late Julian D. Harries, Florence Groton and Maud Chetwood.
