La Fontaine, I-J Printer, Dies At 61

Arthur La Fontaine, 61, linotype operator with the Independent-Journal since 1928, died today at a local hospital.

A native of South Dakota, La Fontaine was a veteran of World War I, having joined the Army at the age of 17. He came to Marin County from Lake County. For the past 13 years he had lived at 45 Center Street, San Rafael.

A linotype operator most of his adult life, he was former secretary of treasurer of San Rafael Typographical Union Local 729. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by a daughter, Joyce, of San Rafael, a second-year student at San Jose State College; two brothers, Louis of Vancouver, B.C., and Harry of South Dakota; and a sister, Mrs. Pearl M. Hurst of Long Beach.

Death came at 8:30 a.m. today following an illness of about a week.

Funeral services are being arranged by his former wife, Helen La Fontaine.
