Hal M. Atkinson Dies
Headed Wood Products Business
Hal M. Atkinson, who retired four months ago as president of the Atkinson Mill and Manufacturing Co. in Oakland, died Saturday evening at a local hospital. He was 71.
Atkinson and his wife, who survives, moved from an Oakland apartment to their weekend house at 2 Beach road in Belvedere upon his retirement. He had been ill for about a year and a half.
A veteran of 54 years in the wood products business founded by his father and continued by himself and two brothers, Atkinson became president of the company about 20 years ago.
He was a 40-year member of Rotary International as well as an ardent yachtsman for more than a quarter of a century. He belonged to the San Francisco Yacht Club of Belvedere.
Atkinson was born in Oakland and educated in Oakland schools.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Mrs. Bryant Bowman of San Jose; a stepson, J. Western Cuningham of Belvedere, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Albert Brown Mortuary, 3476 Piedmont avenue, Oakland.
