MATTHEW M. LAWRENCE

A graveside service for Matthew Machado Lawrence of Novato, a longtime Olema ranch worker, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Lakewood Cemetery in Modesto.

Lawrence died Friday at Novato Community Hospital after a brief illness. He was 71.

He was born in Hanford and first started working on ranches and dairies in that area.

Lawrence later moved to Marin and worked 28 years for John and Mary Costa in Olema. He retired in 1977 and moved to Novato.

He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his brother, John Lawrence of Hanford.

Recitation of the rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. today at the Parent-Sorensen Mortuary in Petaluma.
