Mrs. Martha Jane Neil, mother of Mfrs. L. C. Tolane of this city, passed away at her daughter’s home, 407 D street, yesterday after an illness of some duration.
She was 74 years of age, and the span of her life reaches back to the early days of California, the year 1857, when she came from her birthplace, Savannah, Missouri, across the plains to this state.

The remains are now at Sawyer’s Parlors here, but the funeral will be held at Potter Valley, her home for many years.
The surviving children are Mrs. Sadie Jane Secrest of San Diego; Mrs. Mary Carpenter, of Fresno; Mrs. Lena Clay of Brawley; Mrs. Sonoma Tolane, of this city; James H. Neil, of Fresno; William H. Neil, of Prescott, Washington, and Charles B. Neil, of Potter Valley.
