Life of Wm. Dickson Ends At 88 Years

William J. Dickson, Marin county pioneer and one of the most highly respected citizens of San Rafael, is dead.

And with his death passes the last of six brothers and four sisters of a New England family remarkable for longevity and worth to the communities in which they elected to reside.

Until a few weeks before his death William J. Dickson, at the age of 88 years, was active in the affairs of civic importance and took a deep interest in the things of earth life.

He was the first of his brothers to come to the Pacific Coast from Rygate, Vermont, their birthplace. Locating in Knight’s Ferry in 1853, he remained there for about five years, and then joined his brothers, J. Calvin Dickson and David Dickson who, in the meantime, had come from the Eastern home to Marin county. For many years then he conducted a large ranch in San Geronimo, continuing active until about 15 years ago, w hen he turned the management of his properties over to his only son, Frederick Dickson. For six years he had lived in San Rafael, 201 H street, enjoying a merited rest from his long period of labor.

Death came easily, with little pain and no regrets for his life conduct. He was a good man, and the record of upright living and square dealing with men left by him will be a heritage of value to the sorrowing relatives.

The funeral was largely attended by many friends who had known and respected the deceased for four decades. The service was held at the home residence on H street, with Rev. Lynn T. White officiating. Burial was made in Tamalpais cemetery under the direction of Dr. F. E. Sawyer.

Besides his son, Fred Dickson, son-in-law of Robert Dollar, the deceased is survived by a widow, Jane R. Dickson.
