Old Character Dead
“Scarry” Doyle, a well known character and noted as a bad man has answered the final call. He died in San Francisco last week. It will be remembered that he was sent to San Quentin for then years from this county about twenty years ago, and after he had served his time and left the prison, a feeling of resentment against Captain S. Randolph of the prison grew upon him, so he fully armed himself and struck out for the prison intent on doing bodily harm to the captain. When he arrived at t he prison he hunted up Captain Randolph and took a shot at him, the ball taking effect in his groin. The captain was severely injured but owning to his rugged constitution he recovered. After the shooting “Scarry” took to the “tall timber.” Police officers took up the chase determined to run the desperado to earth. Sheriff Taylor and George Martin made a brilliant capture and brought him prisoner to San Rafael where he escaped and again took to the hills. In about twenty-four hours Sheriff Taylor had his man spotted in Sonoma county where he took him prisoner after a desperate gun fight in which “Scarry” was sounded in the hand and shoulder. He was tried and sentenced to serve ten years in Folsom. After six and one half years he was released and lived a little over two years before death claimed him.
