Death of San Rafael Pioneer Postmaster

Alameda, May 15 - Frederick H. Pratt, a California pioneer of 1849, passed away this afternoon at 1 o’clock at his home, after an illness of several months duration. The deceased was 81 years old and a native of Saybrook, Conn. He came to this state in September 1849, walking across the plains. Like many of the pioneers, Mr. Pratt took up mining as a vocation. Later he became a merchant and postmaster at San Rafael, occupying the store now occupied by J. Albert, which he erected. He leaves a widow and three children, Fannie J., Carrie J. and William Pratt.
