Former Supervisor Thompson Succumbs
Frederick Thompson, one time Marin supervisor and well known Mill Valley civic leader in years past, died yesterday at his home between Stinson Beach and Bolinas. He was 82 years old.
Thompson became a county supervisor Jan. 9, 1933, and resigned March 8, 1937. He had been active in Mill Valley civic affairs and was one of the leaders in raising funds in 1928 to preserve redwood trees on a parcel which was then added to Old Mill Park, in the area where the city library now is being constructed.
Thompson was born March 23, 1883, in San Francisco. His family constructed its home on Molino Avenue in Mill Valley in the early 1880s.
He was the brother of novelist Kathleen Norris of San Francisco who included scenes of Mill Valley in her “Family Gathering” and brother of James Thompson of Mill Valley who wrote “Scenes of My Childhood.”
Thompson was associated with Pacific Electric Mfg. Co. for 30 years and had business interests in Mexico.
He is survived by his wife, Enid Thompson, children Mrs. Helen Dreyfus of Mill Valley and David Thompson of Santa Cruz; by sisters Mrs. Norris and Margaret Hartigan of Washington, D.C., and by his brothers, Joseph Thompson of San Francisco and James in Mill Valley.
He was a member of the Bohemian Club of San Francisco and of the Mill Valley Masonic Lodge.
Private funeral services were held this morning at Mount Tamalpais Cemetery Chapel, San Rafael
