GERTRUDE L. SANFORD
Gertrude Louise Holm Sanford, a longtime Marin resident, died Tuesday, July 7, 1987 at The Tamalpais retirement home in Greenbrae. She was 77.
She was a member of a pioneer gamily in Roseau, Minn., where she was born.
She worked as a special education teacher in Hawaii in 1938, when she met and married Fred R. Sanford of San Francisco.
The moved to Corte Madera in 1939.
In 1969, they moved to the just-opened Tamalpais retirement complex.
The Sanfords traveled extensively.
Mr. Sanford, an importer and developer, died in 1971.
Mrs. Sanford enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Marin Country Club in Novato. Her hobbies also included bridge, needlework, and watching baseball. She was a loyal San Francisco Giants fan.
Her survivors include a daughter, Sammie Dunn of Corte Madera; a son, Jon Sanford of Santa Fe, N.M. and four grandsons.
At Mrs. Sanford’s request, no services will be conducted.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind in San Rafael or a favorite charity.
