Award After Death for Lieut. Egbert

First Lieut. Ted D. Egbert of Sausalito, has been awarded an Oak Leaf cluster posthumously in lieu of a second bronze star medal for heroism in action against the Japanese near Montalban, Luzon, in February. Lt. Egbert was killed in action during a later battle.

While his front line rifle company was withdrawing from the slopes of a mountain, one man was critically wounded by enemy mortar fire. Ordering his platoon to take cover and ignoring the continuous enemy fire, Egbert and a medical aid man crawled to the side of the wounded man, administered first aid and then evacuated him to a place of safety.

The lieutenant’s wife, Mrs. Rita D. Egbert, lives at Sausalito.
