Betty Kopelowitz
Betty Kopelowitz died on December 14, 2001, at the age of 94. She was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved with her husband and daughter to Gainesville, Florida, in 1936. While in Gainesville, the family increased with two more daughters. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah and an active member of Congregation B'Nai Israel, where she was revered as a matriarch of the Jewish Community in Gainesville, Florida. In 1999, when she could no longer live alone, she chose to move to the Golden Manor Jewish Home for the Aged, in San Antonio, to be close to family. She joined Congregation Agudas Achim, and though here a short time, she was much loved and respected by all who met her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Kopelowitz, in 1975. She is survived by her much loved and loving family: Marilyn and Gedalyah Engel, of West Lafayette, Indiana; Cookie and Louis Belinsky, of San Antonio, Texas; Dovey Schneider, of Corte Madera, California; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren. Graveside Service was held Monday, December 17, 2001 1:00 p.m. Agudas Achim Memorial Gardens (Austin Hwy) San Antonio, Texas. Rabbi David Kay officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Congregation Kol Shofar Tiburon, California or your local chapter of Hadassah.
