THANING, Martha Erma "Jill", 85, of San Rafael, passed away December 2, 2001. Adobe Creek/ Cheda & Lyons, Petaluma, 707-789-9000.

Martha Erma "Jill" Thaning
A 45 year resident of San Rafael, died December 2nd, 2001 at home. She was 85 years old. Mrs. Thaning was a native of Seattle and moved to San Francisco in 1937. She was the wife of the late Captain Ragnar Thaning, a shipping executive with a Swedish company. After marrying in 1944, Jill and her husband lived in Sweden for some years where their two children were born, but settled permanently in San Rafael in 1956. Mrs. Thaning was active in community affairs ever since moving to Marin County. She served in various organizations, some of which were: Marin Music Chest, San Rafael Improvement Club - past president, Sunny Hills, Thursday Musical Club, Ross Valley Players, Marin Art & Garden Center Tea Room - three terms past president, and Falkirk Cultural Center. She was also a member of Valley Baptist Church in San Rafael. Her hobby was collecting and refinishing antiques. She is survived by her son, Ragnar Thaning, Jr. of Austin, Texas; her daughter, Linda Tanning of San Rafael; three nieces, and several great nieces and great nephews. The family prefers donations in her memory be made to Hospice of Marin, 150 Nellen Ave., Corte Madera, 94925. At her request, no Service will be held.
