J. F. Prescott Dies From Auto Injuries
Josiah Franklin Prescott died last night at the County Emergency Hospital from injuries received last Friday when he was struck by a machine driven by Charles Freitas near Highlands between San Rafael and San Anselmo. The driver is the son of Banker M. T. Freitas, who was also in the car at the time the accident occurred.
The Freitas car was going towards San Anselmo. According to Richard Meagor, driver of a San Anselmo sprinkling truck, the Freitas car swerved aside to pass the sprinkler, and when it curved into the center of the road again, struck the unfortunate man with the guard of the left rear wheel. The victim was rendered unconscious and remained in that condition until death occurred last night. The injured man was placed in the Freitas machine and removed immediately to the hospital. Dr. J. H. Kuser pronounced the injuries mortal, but exerted every effort in the vain hope that something could be done to save the sufferer. Due to the remarkable vitality of the deceased, despite his age of 78 years, he lingered from Friday till Wednesday night.
He was one of the most highly respected citizens of the community, where he had resided for 37 years. He was a photographer and an artist of extraordinary ability and was possessed of great knowledge of his vocation.
The sudden death left a grief stricken family of five children and an aged wife. For several days the sons and daughters in mercy kept the true state of facts from the life mate of the injured man. The one who informed her that her husband had passed away performed a heart-breaking task.
He is survived by his children, Mrs. Mabel McKennon (?) of Stinson Beach, Mrs. A. P. Taylor, Roy M. Prescott, and Ralph Prescott of San Rafael, and Ray Prescott, of Portland, Oregon. Funeral services will be held Saturday in Sawyer’s Parlors at 2 o’clock.
