Rae Valley Menzies
Retired police dispatcher
Memorial services will be today for Rae Valley Menzies of Mill Valley, a former dispatcher at the Mill Valley Police Department.
The Marin native died Jan. 8 of heart failure. She was 77.
She was born in Tiburon and was raised in San Rafael. She settled in Mill Valley when she married Colin Menzies Jr. in late 1930s.
Mrs. Menzies was employed as the first dispatcher for the Mill Valley Police Department. She retired after five years with the department.
She enjoyed baking and often gave cookies to neighbors and local merchants.
She is survived by a son, Colin Menzies III of Willits; a daughter, Katharine Menzies of Mill Valley; two sisters, Juanita Albachten of Mill Valley and Margaret Painter of Santa Rosa; four granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 1987.
Memorial services will begin at 10 a.m. today at St. Hillary’s Church in Tiburon. Burial will be private.
