Contractor Killed In Head-on Crash
Joseph Espinosa, 44, Santa Rosa contractor whose company is moving earth fill in Corte Madera for a new motel, was killed last night in a car-truck head-on collision on Highway 101 just north of the Marin Sonoma county line, which claimed to other lives, according to a United Press report.
Espinosa was driving the truck, the report stated, and the other two killed were Henry Thomas, 37, a Sebastopol tavern owner, and William R. Reid, 53, of Carmichael.
Earlier, a 79-year-old San Rafael woman stepped out of her car in Corte Madera and said “I’m not hurt,” after one of the huge earth-moving carryalls owned by Espinosa collided with her car, smashing the front of it, according to Police Chief Frank Nelson. She was Mrs. Nellie Nora Manning of 914 Fifth avenue.
The mishap occurred at 12:40 p.m. yesterday on Tamalpais drive where the heavy construction equipment crosses the street near Littleman’s Market Nelson said. Driver of the carryall was Calvin Elmore Denham, 28, of Porterville. Mrs. Manning said she did not see the flagman at the scene who directs traffic while equipment is in use, Nelson said. He estimated $800 damage to her car.
