CHARLES LOCATI
Longtime pharmacist

Memorial services were held Tuesday for Charles Locati, a pharmacist and lifelong Marin resident who died Monday, Nov. 26, 1990, at Kaiser Hospital in Terra Linda. He was 79.

Mr. Locati was a native of San Rafael. His parents, Augustine and Pierena Locati, immigrated to Marin County from Italy.

Mr. Locati decided at an early age to become a pharmacist. He graduated from the School of Pharmacy at University of California, San Francisco, in 1931 at the age of 19.

His first job after graduation was at the Campion-Ward Pharmacy in San Rafael. Later, he worked for Lockwood’s Pharmacy.

In 1938, Mr. Locati became partners with Violet Lockwood and Wallace Hayes. They operated Lockwood’s Pharmacy in Mill Valley and Kentfield. In 1960, Mr. Locati and his close friend, Ken Harris, purchased Rossi Brothers Pharmacy in San Anselmo.

“Charlie will be greatly missed as he has touched many, many people’s lives,” said his daughter, Elizabeth Pelzner of San Francisco.

Mr. Locati retired last December, and devoted his time to gardening. An avid gardener, Mr. Locati and his wife, Marie, of San Rafael, grew and preserved fruits and vegetables for 40 years.

In addition to his wife and daughter, Mr. Locati is survived by a second daughter, Mariana Larose of Lagunitas; five sons, Robert and Phillip Locati, both of Petaluma, Peter and Joe Locati, both of Santa Rosa, Jeff Locati of Petaluma; and nine grandchildren.
