EDITH ARNOLD ABBOTT
Branson math chairman

A memorial service for Edith Arnold Abbott of Greenbrae, a former math teacher at The Branson School and Ross School District trustee, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church of San Anselmo.

Mrs. Abbott died Monday, June 26, 1989, at Bayside Convalescent Hospital in Kentfield after a long illness. She was 73.

She was born and raised in Seattle and graduated from the University of Washington in 1938, where she studied math, science and education.

She married Doyle Abbott in1938, while both were students at the university.

Mrs. Abbott taught at a high school in Washington for three years and lived in Cincinnati for four years. She moved to Ross in 1946, living there for 14 years, and then lived in Greenbrae for 28 years.

She served on the Ross School District board for two terms in the 1950s.

She taught at The Branson School in Ross for 20 years, where she headed the math department. She retired in 1977.

Mrs. Abbott was a member of the American Association of University Women, Audubon Society, Sierra Club, World Wildlife Fund and Nature Conservancy. She also was a docent at the California Academy for Sciences at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

She enjoyed nature and traveled to Antartica, Galapagos Islands, Africa and South Pacific.

Survivors are her husband, Doyle Abbott of Greenbrae; three daughters, Louise Abbott of Walnut Creek, Pahtrisha MacDaniels of Portland, Ore. and Phyllis Bolster of The Dalles, Ore.; and four grandchildren.

The family prefers donations to the American Cancer Society.
