FOLEY, Gertrude (Gertie) M., 90, formerly of San Rafael, passed away November 25, 2001. Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, 336-854-9100.

Gertrude (Gertie) M. Foley
Age 90, formerly of San Rafael, CA, died Sunday, November 25, 2001 at Beverly Health Care in Greensboro, NC. A native Californian, Ms. Foley was born January 27, 1911 in San Anselmo. Most of her adult life was spent volunteering her time and efforts to better other peoples' lives. In 1929, she founded the Marin County Shut-In Society, for which she received a Presidential Citation from Franklin D. Roosevelt. While working at Marin Skateland, she devoted much of her time to working with autistic children. In her later years, she served as a board member and Treasurer for the Blind Adults of Marin, which led to a nomination for Senior Citizen of the Year in 1984. She remained active with the Blind Adults until 1986 when she moved to North Carolina to live with her son and his family. Ms. Foley is survived by her son, Michael Foley, and wife, Christia, and three grandchildren, Jordan, Melea and Heather.
