The Alleged Murderer Under Arrest at Pasadena
Mrs. Wilcox Dies From the Brutal Treatment Received
Reward For Her Slayer
Mrs. Wilcox is dead and her husband, the alleged murderer, is under arrest at Pasadena. The coroner's jury has charged Wilcox with murder and it will take more than an average showing to acquit him of the hideous crime.
Wilcox was captured at Pasadena Sunday. Pasadena is his old home and his father runs a hotel there. He must have gone immediately to Pasadena, making his way by foot through Knight's Valley and boarding a Southern Pacific train at some small station on the Napa branch.
Mrs. Wilcox died Saturday afternoon without recovering consciousness for one brief instant. For 4 days she lingered hopelessly and then passed away into the great beyond. Perhaps it is better so but there are not many men in Sonoma County who would not help to draw the rope around the neck of her murderer. The crime is one of the blackest in the annals of the county.
Mrs. Wilcox was taken to Kelseyville Sunday for burial. The father of the supposed murderer came up from Pasadena and accompanied the remains on the death journey.
The crime was done last Wednesday. Mrs. Wilcox was found unconscious and bleeding on the floor of her room at her brother's home near Litton's Springs. The poor woman had a bullet hole in her face and was shockingly beaten with some blunt instrument, presumably the heavy end of a revolver.
In the room was found a letter from Wilcox from whom the wife had been separated for several years. In this letter Wilcox said that he was going to kill his wife and himself. It was supposed that Wilcox might have thrown himself in Russian River, which was running bank full at the time.
The brother of the murdered woman charges Wilcox with the crime. Wilcox stayed at Price's house and he and his wife went to another brother's home together. It was here the murder was committed. When Mrs. Wilcox was discovered she was covered with a blanket and lay upon a rug.
