Our friend Marilyn Miller passed from this world in July 2001 in a Petaluma Hospital, a few weeks from her 77th birthday. Marilyn was born in New York City on August 30, 1924. Marilyn described herself as "my father's daughter" and carried a photo of him in every purse throughout her lifetime. She loved the American Democracy as equally as she adored the country of Israel. Raised as a Jew, she traveled to Tel Aviv after the creation of the state, where she fell in with the bursting Russian theater community, establishing life long friendships as they went about setting up the national theater. Marilyn married a young Air Force officer early in life. On his last training mission prior to being shipped overseas, he was killed. Remaining a life long widow, she distributed her love to a close-knit circle of friends and to her various poodles over the years. She was a ferocious reader and followed the careers of her favorite politicians with great gusto. She supported local democratic movers and shakers and volunteered for the Democratic Party through the great elections of the last half-century. Marilyn had an opinion about everything coupled with low tolerance for incompetence, ignorance, bigotry, and poor service. Marilyn's love affair with San Francisco and the Bay Area began when she visited California and upon relocating, she soon became an agent for John Hancock Insurance. A perfect Virgo, she found her ideal vocation and her many happy clients can attest to her dedication and obsessive desire to please. Marilyn visited Israel several more times in the 1980's and 90's. Her passion for Israel and its people was never quite requited. She considered retirement there but realized that her failing health could be a detriment and reluctantly abandoned the idea. Instead, her plans of relocating to a local retirement community with her fluffy pooch "Baby" never came to fruition. Marilyn was diagnosed with Grave's disease a decade ago and was dealing with the various side effects until her death. Health issues mounted in frequency, and in April she lost the sight in one eye. Marilyn is survived by one nephew and four nieces. Her cremated remains will be carried by a friend to final and eternal rest in her beloved Israel.
