John Stanley Ott
Passed away peacefully at home in Sonoma on December 6, 2001, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1910, Stan was a professional City and Regional Planner for over 40 years, serving in Ohio, Nevada, Colombia, Jamaica, and many California communities before retiring from the San Rafael Planning Department in 1977 . Stan was an accomplished painter, looking to the natural environment for artistic inspiration. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed time spent with them at his favorite retreat, a cabin in the Sierras that he and his family built by hand in 1951. Stan is survived by his wife, Bettie Basye Ott, daughters Laura Reif, Judy Gregg, and Linda Potter (Jerry), six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a large extended family. Stan's first wife, "Val," passed away in 1988. A celebration of Stan's life will be held on Thursday, December 13 at 2:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 240 Channing Way, San Rafael. The family suggests donations in his memory to The Hospice of Marin.
