Carmelo (Mel) P. Riccardi
Passed away at home with his family on December 4, 2001; he was 77 years of age. Mel was born on August 22, 1924, to Italian immigrant parents, in the North Beach section of San Francisco. Always an intense family man, Mel stayed close to home spending his early years as a member of the Salisian's Boy's Club and continuing high school just down the street at Galeleo High. After serving his country as a Navy soldier in Japan, Mel returned to San Francisco to finish his education at USF, where he earned a degree in accounting. Mel met his wife and life long partner, Gloria Pochini on a bus traveling down Columbus Avenue. They were soon engaged on that same street at Café Tosca. The young couple eventually crossed the Golden Gate to raise their family in the Greenbrae neighborhood of Marin County. It was there that they lived for the next 41 years, raising their three sons Paul, Jon, and Robert. After several years working for others in real estate finance, Mel started his own business in a small office in El Cerrito, California. Like everything else, Mel treated work like a family enterprise. It wasn't long before his first two sons joined him in the business, which has since grown substantially. By keeping their clients' interests first, MPR Financial has helped thousands of families in the East Bay purchase their homes. The success of the business he began with his sons, was always a source of great pride for Mel throughout his life. Mel will live on in the loving memory of his wife Gloria, his three sons, their wives, his grandchildren Danielle, Rob and Talia his sister Ann, her three sons and many, many others. Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service, Wednesday, December 12, at 10:30 at Saint Sebastian's Catholic Church in Greenbrae. In lieu of flowers, donations to the following organizations are very much appreciated.
