BLAND, Carl Clemans, 90, of Kentfield, passed away December 1, 2001. Neptune Society of No. California 415-898-1868.

Carl Clemans Bland
Passed away at Marin General Hospital on December 1, 2001 at the age of 90. A native of Texas, he resided in Marin for over 53 years. He is survived by his wife, Ella Bland, his son Jon Bland of Valencia, his daughter and son-in-law Charlene and Mark Haley of Sebastopol and sister LaVerne Groves of Camarillo. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Eileen (Mrs. Richard) Mannheimer of Sacramento, Colleen (Mrs. Patrick) Johnston of Cotati, Peter Bland of Valencia and Thomas Bland of Encinitas, and three great grandchildren. He graduated from the University of Southern California subsequently becoming an executive in the shipping industry carrying out the duties of owners of various international shipping lines while the ships were in ports on the Pacific Coast. He and Ella travelled extensively to the various countries represented by the shipping lines he represented as well as other countries. There, they made close and continuing friends. He also served as Lieutenant and Commander as a Naval Attache in Russia during WWII. In retirement, he was a member of Sons in Retirement Branch 22 where he served as the Big Sir in 1986. A scattering at Sea of his ashes is planned in a private ceremony. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Parkinsons Institute, 1170 Morse Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94089.
