RONALD GEMMELL
Memorial service for Ronald A. Gemmell, whose career ranged from newspaper work to serving with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Community Congregation Church, 145 Rock Hill Drive, Tiburon.
Gemmell, 65, died Tuesday in a local hospital after a short illness. He had lived the past five years at 7 South Knoll, Mill Valley.
At the time of his death, he was a national account executive for a San Francisco advertising firm.
A native of Oregon, Gemmell was reared there and graduated from the University of Oregon in 1955 (sic), receiving degrees in journalism and in physical education. In college he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and was on the university’s basketball and baseball teams.
A few years later, Gemmell moved to Salem, Oregon, where he worked as sports editor of the Oregon Statesman. Immediately following Pearl Harbor, Gemmell moved to San Francisco, working seven years as a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
He then moved to Marin in 1952, living in Tiburon and Mill Valley. He was a charter member of the Marin Golf and Country Club.
Gemmell is survived by his daughter, Creagh Gemmell of Santa Rosa; sisters, Lorna Rees of Oregon and LaVelle Schannat of Novato; brothers, Gordon, Alan and Darrell of Oregon and Wallace of California.
